RADICAL CARE
A scenic laboratory designed by Stephanie Winter with works by Deirdre Donoghue, Courtney Kessel, Claudia Lomoschitz and Anna Witt. 05 Nov – 05 Dec 2021 Motherboard, Castellezgasse 36 – 38 / T20 (Glas door) With contributions amongst others by Bernadette Anzengruber, Louise Deininger, Deirdr Donoghue, Zuzana Ernst (D/Arts), Courtney Kessel, Claudia Lomoschitz, Doris Richter (Saloon Wien), Nikola Otto (Sorority), Käthe Schönle, Stephanie Winter, Micha Wille, Anna Witt und Angela Zach-Buchmayer (Kahan Art Space). Under the title RADICAL CARE, curator Nora Mayr and artist Stephanie Winter present the result and interim status of an almost one year-long dialogue from Nov. 4 – Dec. 5, 2021. In a surreal laboratory, research results, artistic positions and a comprehensive discourse program around the topics of motherhood and ecofeminism come together. RADICAL CARE understands motherhood as a political strategy and imagines a world in which people increasingly act as mothers in the sense of an activist form of caring and not, as exemplified for centuries by the Western world, as conquerors and exploiters. Theoretical starting points are philosophies of ecofeminism, which relate ecological questions to feminist analyses. As a performative exhibition space with a magic vulva gate, RADICAL CARE opens up a space of action in which ecofeminist questions interweave with activist energies as well as serious and tragicomic commentaries on motherhood. In a mix of lectures, performances, film screenings and artistic interventions, RADICAL CARE explores the need for a global turnaround of togetherness and, together with invited experts and artists, investigates the potential of maternal agency as an inspirational and radical act of caring.
